The Power in Our Perception

Our perception of something is more important than the thing itself. What we perceive of something holds power to what that thing means in our lives. We’ve heard the saying before: “glass half empty vs glass half full”. That’s perception. We can either choose to see something as good, bad, or as nothing. We decide this. No one else but us. We make this choice (which is more than likely going to be the next topic I speak on). We’ve all experienced situations where they devastated us during that time but became something we laugh about now. Whether it be with relationships, goals that weren’t met, obstacles, or even little things that truly bear no weight; those situations were perceived the way we wanted to perceive them.

Here’s an example I can give you: You ever had a friend that came to you about an issue and when they told you about it you thought to yourself “Is that it?” or for some maybe even laughed at it. Perception. What that individual perceived as devastating you perceived as minuscule. You could have been that friend that went to someone with an issue. We’ve all experienced this. The reason why we should focus on our perception of things is so that we can have even more control over our own futures. What you may perceive as failure I may perceive as a way to build on a weakness or vice versa. I’ve learned through heartaches, “failures” (I don’t believe in that word anymore, but I’ll save that for later), obstacles, disagreements, and setbacks that the way I perceived each situation correlated to how it affected me.

Perception is power. At this moment in my life I have huge goals as well as obstacles in my life but mentally I’ve already seen myself accomplish each and everything goal I’ve created for my self, I just have to physically do them. To most people I’ve shared my goals with they say “that’s impossible” “no way” “I don’t know man, seems too tough”, and I say “you’re right, from your perception it is impossible, but from my perception not only is it possible but I already know it’s going to happen”.

The people who don’t doubt my goals usually say to me, “so that’s your dreams huh” or “man you have big dreams” and my response to them every single time is “I don’t dream, I envision”. My “dreams” are visions of what is already to come. That is the power of perception. You have that power. We all have that power.
