The Fire Within

A short, late night post.

It all started while I was watching an anime show called “One Piece” back in the 6th grade. During a specific moment in the episode the characters were caught in a blizzard while climbing up a mountain. One of the characters did not have a shirt on and the other characters asked him, “Hey, aren’t you cold?”. He then replies, “No, I am not cold, because of the fire burning deep within me.” For some reason that stuck with me throughout my life. I interpreted the “fire” as his drive, his tenacity, and his determination. As long as he had that fire burning within him to climb the mountain he would be warm and succeed in doing so.

As cheesy as that may have all sounded, that is how we should look at our own lives. We all have that fire within us. Unfortunately, some of us are either not fueling it and letting it die out. Just like a real physical fire, we have to fuel the fire within us. To fuel the fire we must have tenacity, determination, and an unshakeable drive.

There are so many things in this word that can weaken or put out our fires however, I am a firm believer that we control how strong our fire is. (Mark 7:15 I like to remove the word “defile” and add the word “define”) No one else truly has control over our fire except us. Tenacity comes from within, as well as determination and a strong drive. Those three things can be taught to us, however to truly master and control our fire, it is something that we must practice and improve on consistently on our own.
