Balance. Obtaining balance in our lives creates the perfect environment for our success. To be more direct, we need balance to be successful. One aspect of a balanced life is the ability to apply discipline in every aspect of our lives. We all have that one thing in our lives that we can do with 100% effort and consistency no matter the situation, mood, or obstacles. We also all have that one thing that we can only do if the stars and planets are aligned.

Applying the same discipline we have from the first scenario to the second scenario is an effective method on achieving balance in our lives. I know one thing that I can do no matter the mood or scenario is workout. At a drop of a dime I can start doing pushups or pretend I am sprinting in the 100m and run in place. The same goes for reading, I can easily just sit down and read a book no matter the environment. What I have noticed however is that the stars and planets have to align for me to get these blog posts up consistently. With that being said, I need to actively apply my discipline in working out and reading to writing these blog posts.

There are many more things in our lives that we need to have more discipline with in order to achieve balance; it varies between individuals however there are many methods available to achieve such balance.

One effective method that I use in order to transfer the same discipline intensity I have in one area of my life to another one that is lacking that same discipline, is to emotionally label both events in the same category. What do I mean by this? Simple. That same emotional intensity we may feel about watching our favorite television show, we apply that same emotion with waking up early to eat a healthy breakfast.

A more direct example is me sprinting in place at random moments (in the privacy of my home of course) has an emotional tag on it. When I do this there is a random but sudden surge of energy that I experience along with envisioning myself sprinting. I applied the same with writing this blog. As I was arriving back home from classes I thought about sprinting and then immediately began thinking about writing this blog. The surge of energy created from visioning myself sprinting carried over into writing a post.

To truly master this method we must do it consistently, even when we may not want to. That is how we achieve balance, by having the discipline to stay balanced consistently.
